How it works

  2. Get your quote

  3. Pick your day

Happy with the price? A deposit secures the date, and on that day your new lawn goes down.

Our turf laying services

Most jobs are one of these, and plenty are a mix. Tell us what you've got and we'll quote for the lot.

  • New striped back lawn with straight edges, a gravel strip and sleeper beds behind a brick house

    New lawns

Bare soil, a cleared garden or somewhere that's never had grass: ground prepared and fresh turf laid.

  • Neglected back garden behind a stone terrace, with mossy, patchy grass and bare muddy patches

    Lawn replacement

Tired, patchy or mossy grass lifted and taken away, then a new lawn laid in its place.

  • Red-brick semi on a modern estate with a neat new front lawn beside a block-paved drive

    New-build gardens

Builder's soil turned into a proper lawn, front and back, for a home you've just moved into.

  • Landscaping rake levelling fresh soil in a back garden, ready for new turf

    Ground preparation and topsoil

Levelling, stone picking and fresh topsoil where it's needed, so new turf has a good bed.

  • Close-up of a crisply cut turf edge beside a dark soil border with young plants

    Landlord and rental lawns

A fresh lawn between tenancies or before a let, for landlords and letting agents.

Turf or seed?

Both make a lawn. Here's how they differ, so you can choose what suits your garden.

TurfWhat we lay

  • Looks like a lawn the day it goes down
  • Can be laid for most of the year, whenever the ground isn't frozen or waterlogged
  • Roots in and is ready to use much sooner than seed
  • Leaves little bare soil for weeds or birds
  • Costs more to buy than seed

Seed

  • Costs less to buy
  • Best sown in spring or early autumn
  • Takes a growing season or more to thicken up
  • Needs keeping off and protecting from birds while it grows
  • Good where budget matters more than time

Questions

Questions about turf laying

How much does turf laying cost?

It depends on the garden: its size, the state of the ground, how easy it is to get to and whether an old lawn needs lifting. So each quote is priced for your garden alone and spells out what it covers. Fill in the form for yours, free.

Do you take the old lawn away?

Yes. If your garden needs it, lifting the existing grass and clearing the waste is part of the job. Any builders' rubble is priced on its own.

How long will it take?

Most gardens are finished within a day. Plots that are bigger, or need heavier ground work, may run on.

What time of year can turf be laid?

Almost any month works, provided the soil isn't frozen solid or sodden. Spring and autumn are kind to new turf; in warm, dry spells it simply needs more watering.

Do I need to be in on the day?

Not always. If the garden can be reached and there's an outside tap to use, you don't need to be home. The details are agreed when you book.

Can I just buy turf from you?

We lay lawns rather than selling turf on its own. If you'd like to buy turf and lay it yourself, see Buying turf only?.
