Durham Turf

Terms of sale

These terms cover buying turf from Durham Turf, whether you collect it or we deliver it. We've kept them short and in plain English. Please have a read before you pay, because placing your order means you're happy with them.

1. Your order

You order on our website: choose your quantity, collection or delivery, and a date. Then you pay on our payment provider's secure page. Your order is confirmed when your payment goes through, and we send you a confirmation.

Your order is confirmed and committed as soon as you place it and pay. From that moment we book your turf with the grower for your day, set aside your delivery or collection day (that's the day, not a set time), and plan the round around it, so we may turn other orders away for that day.

That's why we ask you to check your quantity, postcode, address and date before you pay.

2. Prices

Turf is priced per roll, and each roll covers approximately 1 m². The price per roll depends on the quantity band your order falls into, as shown on our website when you order. Delivery is priced by postcode. The order page shows the total before you pay, and that's the amount you pay. If you collect, you pay for the turf only.

The price shown before you pay is the full price.

3. When to order

Deliveries are made on the dates offered at checkout. Collections are Monday to Friday. Order by 2pm the working day before your delivery or collection at the latest, but please order as far in advance as you can to avoid disappointment.

4. Changes and cancellations

Turf is perishable and cut to order for your day, so orders are final once placed and the 14-day cancellation period for online orders doesn't apply.

If something changes, call us on 0191 359 3590 and we'll help where we can. There are no refunds for a change of mind. None of this affects your statutory rights.

5. Collection

If you choose collection, you collect from our collection point near Newcastle Airport. Collections are by order only from our collection partner, and full address details with clear directions are sent with your order confirmation.

Please collect on your booked date, bring a vehicle suitable for the weight of your order, and load it safely. Turf that isn't collected on the day won't keep, so section 5 applies.

6. Delivery and where turf is left

We deliver to your property or the closest suitable and accessible point the vehicle can safely reach, such as the drive, front garden, parking bay or garage court. We'll leave your turf in the most convenient place we reasonably can, where it's possible and safe, but on occasion we may not be able to leave it exactly where you'd prefer. Rolls are left at the property: they aren't carried through houses or garages, along side paths or into back gardens. You don't need to be at home.

Please add accurate parking and access notes when you order, such as footpaths, steps or parking restrictions. If we can't deliver because of access we weren't told about, we'll contact you to arrange another option, and explain any extra cost before it's charged.

7. Counting and checking your rolls

We count every order out to the number of rolls you've paid for, each covering approximately 1 m². Please count your rolls too and give them a quick look over.

If you collect

Count and check them before you leave the collection point. Once you drive away, the order is taken as complete and correct.

If we deliver

Count and check them as soon as they've been left, and before you start laying. If anything doesn't look right, tell us the same day, with a photo of the stack as it was left. Once the turf is laid, or if we haven't heard from you by the end of the delivery day, the order is taken as delivered complete and in good condition.

Torn edges and rolls in pieces

Every roll is cut from the field by a harvesting machine that lifts it from the soil and rolls it up. Ragged edges, small tears and the odd roll in two or more pieces are a normal part of harvesting fresh turf. They knit together once laid and watered and don't affect how your lawn grows, so they aren't treated as a fault or as damage in handling.

Once it's yours

Once your turf has been delivered to your property (or the closest suitable point) or collected, it's your responsibility, including looking after it, watering it and laying it.

8. Looking after your turf

Turf is a natural, living product. Roll sizes are approximate, and colour and texture vary a little with the season and the weather.

It's perishable, so please lay it on the day you receive it. How well it takes depends on ground preparation, watering and aftercare once it's with you.

9. Payment, weather and your rights

Payment is taken in full when you order, by our payment provider. We don't see or store your full card details.

If something outside our control, such as severe weather, frozen or waterlogged fields or a vehicle breakdown, stops us cutting, delivering or having your turf ready on your date, we'll contact you to arrange a new date.

None of this affects your statutory rights.

We may update these terms from time to time. Your order is covered by the version on this page on the day you paid.

10. Turf laying

If we lay your lawn for you, our turf laying terms apply instead, together with your written quote.
