How many rolls of turf do you need?
Measure each part of your lawn in metres and add it below. We'll round up to whole rolls and add a little for trimming if you like.
Measure your lawn
Measure each rectangle of lawn in metres. For an L-shape or a lawn that wraps round the house, measure it as two or three rectangles.
Fill in the measurements to see how much turf you need.
Measuring tips
Long, narrow terrace gardens
Measure the length down the middle and the width at a couple of points. If it narrows towards the back, use the average width.
L-shapes and corners
Split the lawn into rectangles that don't overlap, measure each one, and add a row for each.
Curves and island beds
Measure the rectangle around the curve, then choose +10% for trimming. Take off any large beds you're keeping.
Worked examples
| Lawn | Measurements | Rolls with +5% |
|---|---|---|
| Terrace back garden | 5m × 4m | 21 |
| Semi front and back | 4m × 3m and 8m × 5m | 13 and 42 |
| 30 square metres | 30m² | 32 |
Each roll covers about 1 m² and measures about 2.4m × 0.4m.
Questions people ask
How much extra should I add?
We suggest about 5% for straight-edged lawns and 10% where there are curves, beds or paths to trim around.
Can I take my size straight to the order form?
Yes. Your rolls carry through to our order form, so you don't have to type them in again.
